Introduction to Law

This foundational “Introduction to Law” course offers a comprehensive overview of the legal principles and the major legal systems of the world. The course also introduces the students to the study of public law and private law. It includes sources of law, case study, and the legal profession. Students will first explore the core distinctions between public law (including constitutional, administrative, and criminal law) and private law (encompassing contract, tort, and property law), gaining insights into how these branches govern state-individual and individual relationship, respectively. A significant focus will be placed on the diverse sources of law, such as legislation, case law (judicial precedent), constitutions, customary law, treaties, and legal doctrine, enabling students to critically analyze how legal norms are created and applied.
