YEAN Reaksmey

REAKSMEY Yean is a Cambodian lecturer, researcher, curator, and cultural heritage specialist whose interdisciplinary work connects international law, human rights, cultural heritage, and the arts. His academic interests include international cultural heritage law, cultural rights, art law, restitution and repatriation, and the protection of cultural heritage.

He has pursued graduate studies in Public International Law through the Royal University of Law and Economics and Université Paris 8, alongside advanced studies in Asian Art at SOAS University of London and Asian Art Histories at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore. His research has particularly explored art restitution within international law as well as Cambodian and Southeast Asian art and cultural heritage.

Beyond legal academia, Reaksmey is an art curator, writer, researcher, and co-founder/program director of Silapak Trotchaek Pneik, a contemporary art space in Phnom Penh. He has also taught art history at higher education institutions in Cambodia, giving his teaching a distinctive interdisciplinary perspective combining law, heritage, history, and cultural practice.
