In September 2022, NUM iLAW marked another important milestone in its international mooting journey when Sreypich Hout represented the National University of Management at the 39th Jean-Pictet Competition, held in Denpasar, Indonesia, from 3–10 September 2022.
The Jean-Pictet Competition, founded in 1989, is an international training competition in international humanitarian law (IHL). Unlike a traditional moot court, it is entirely oral and uses simulations and role-playing exercises based on a fictional armed conflict. Students may take on roles such as legal advisers, humanitarian delegates, military officers, diplomats, and NGO representatives, putting their legal knowledge into practice in different situations.
At the conclusion of the competition, Sreypich received the Gilbert-Apollis Prize, becoming the first Cambodian student to receive the distinction. The Gilbert-Apollis Prize recognizes an outstanding individual performance throughout the competition, regardless of the overall result achieved by the participant’s team.
This achievement remains an important part of NUM iLAW’s mooting journey and reflects the value of providing students with opportunities to apply their legal knowledge, develop confidence, and gain international experience beyond the classroom.
